4.4.2 Countervailing measures

Countervailing measures are border measures that are applied to imports of a product to offset any direct or indirect subsidy granted by authorities in an exporting country where subsidised imports of that product from that country are causing injury to the domestic industry producing the like product in the importing country. Countervailing measures may take the form of countervailing duties or undertakings negotiated and concluded with the exporting firms or by authorities of the subsidising country.

In particular, countervailing measures include:

  • Countervailing investigations;
  • Countervailing duties; and
  • Price undertakings.
